From Composey: As the Twin Cities entered 2026, we felt our values being tested, our neighbors being whisked out of sight, and our voices being silenced when we dissented. I was asked several times if I was going to release an album. I wasn’t planning on it, but the more I performed around town in the face of what is happening on our streets and in our neighborhoods, it was abundantly clear that I had to.
My songs call out for peace. Peace for children, who deserve to play and find innocent joy over fearing gun violence (“Sweet Light”). Peace for my immigrant neighbors, who should not be unfairly treated based on their skin color or accents (“Descendant”). Peace for families, who should feel safe and loved at home (“Home”). Peace for ourselves, when we run so quickly and don’t feel like we have time to stop and enjoy a moment (“Stay”.)
The gentle vocal “sing-speak” style, blended with acoustic guitar, ukulele and piano while accompanied by cello (Elinor Compton) sends listeners into a soothing space of reflection. Combined with drums (Greg Schutte) and bass guitar (Nick Salisbury), and a haunting lead guitar solo (Robert Bell), all by Twin-Cities based musicians who love this community as much as I do, this album is a musical hug to the Cities that we call home, and beyond. Greg Schutte is producing this collection, keeping the songs true to their purpose:
It’s a call for peace, a call for community, and a call for healing, rooted in humanity.
