Southside Aces – How Long Blues

Butch Thompson & Southside Aces How Long Blues with Charlie Devore is now released to the world. This is a live to multi-track recording that was captured at Crooner’s Lounge and Supper Club in Minneapolis, MN. Butch Thompson is a well regarded pianist in the New Orleans jazz tradition, joining him on stage and being able to make a recording was/is an honor for the band.

The tracks on the recording are standards in the canon, but the addition of pianist Butch along with Charlie “the sensational senior serenader” Devore on a few numbers brings newfound joy for the band… and hopefully listeners, alike! The Aces have been fortunate to join Butch on many occasions at Crooner’s, this recording was inspired by those live performances.

Finally, the recording itself occurred back in October 2019, thanks to the diligence of Aces Tony Balluff and Dave Michael, the release date in October 2020 to a live audience (outdoors and masked) makes this a pandemic release. Jazz is still happening, have a listen and enjoy!
